On the Silická plateau in the Slovak Karst, near the village of Silica, there is a cave abyss called Babská diera, which is worth visiting. It is located in the bowels of the forest there, but thanks to the local information boards, you will certainly not have a problem finding it.
The Babská diera is a 46-meter-long vertical cave abyss, with the entrance portal being a karst sinkhole in the past. In addition, the Babská diera is also interesting for something else. It is an iconic seat of a man of Kyjatice culture.
At a depth of 5 meters, discoverer Ján Majko found here several archaeological artifacts - human bones and pieces of ceramics from the early Bronze Age. Perhaps the most interesting and remarkable finding is a mask made of the facial part of the human skull. It is this artifact that proves that the Babská diera was once a place of bloody cult ceremonies with human sacrifices.
Babská diera can be reached on the yellow route from a small parking lot just in front of Silica. The cave abyss is located about 5 minutes drive from the signpost Silická Cave car park.
