An interesting geological phenomenon, Brusno Sand Balls, can be found in a quarry near the village of Chrenovec-Brusno near Prievidza.
These are mostly spherical but also ellipsoidal and mushroom-like sandstone formations. Some of them reach a size of 10 cm - 2 m and are a rarity even worldwide. These spheres are evidence of the retreat of the sea from the Upper Ponitrie area during the early Tertiary, about 40 million years ago.
In Slovakia, in addition to this location, there are situated only in one area in Kysuce region - the so-called "Megoňky". Like the ones in Kysuce, even the Brusno balls have reduced their concentration in their original place, under the influence of man.
There is also the educational trail from the village of Chrenovec - Brusno leading to these sandballs. It is about 1.5 km long. There are also places with benches and fireplaces on the trail path.
