Description
Baníkov (Polish: Banówka) is the highest peak of the Western Tatras. Its peak reaches a height of up to 2178 m above sea level. It is situated above Žiarska, Roháčska, Bobrovecká and Jalovská Valley. It is built by granitoid rocks and its sharp forms were created by the nivation and mountain glacier activity.
Below the summit, in Baníkov Saddle, it is possible to relax, recharge and physically and mentally prepare to conquer another 500 meters of altitude and the final elevation to the rocky peak itself.
The very top is narrow, its perpendicular walls steeply fall into the surrounding valleys. In good weather, Baníkov provides a circular view of the Orava, Liptov and Tatras dominants.
You can go to Baníkov from different directions, all of which lead through beautiful nature with endless views. Like all the hikes in Roháče, this one is quite demanding and for many it is a good thrill with a certain amount of adrenaline.
