The beekeeping glade and open-air museum in Kráľová pri Senec is a facility of the Slovak Association of Beekeepers. The open-air museum is built in a space surrounded by a beautiful English park. Its founder was the author of the first work on the history of beekeeping in Slovakia, R. Mičieta.
The exhibition displays unique collections of hives of various shapes, as well as unique hives used as early as in the 17th century, or formwork hives of various types from the 18th century. Hives in the shape of houses or churches are extremely interesting and very decorative. The oldest relief hives carved by folk artists are from the first half of the 19th century.
In the building of a large apiary, which used to bee breeding, honey processing and as a lecture room for practical lessons during the courses, visitors can enjoy medometas, presses for divisions, beekeeping aids and needs from different periods of development of the Slovak beekeeping.
The historical exhibition is devoted to the most important personalities of the Slovak beekeeping industry, promotion of beekeeping, bee products and the importance of bees and other pollinators for nature.
The open-air museum offers accommodation, refreshments, food and cooking, sitting around a campfire, fishing or even working in the garden. A great attraction for both small and large visitors is certainly tasting and selling bee products: honey, mead, pollen, propolis and beeswax.
