Nature has incredible power. Evidence of this is the creation in Bešeňová. Freshwater limestones, also known as travertines, are a treasure of Slovakia and a natural monument in one.
Bešeňová travertine formation is located north of the village of Bešeňová. Its diversity is one of the most interesting features of this kind in Europe.
Travertine will captivate you with its varied colours which are the result of iron compounds - there are about 20 earthy gypsum acid springs here. The vibrant Red Terraces are extremely colourful.
Travertines of Bešeňová are also enchanting with their cascading appearance, which resembles a huge waterfall transformed into limestone. Mineral water, which is drinkable, is still running on travertines. It has a typical iron flavour.
If you look behing yourself when being by travertines, you will be captivated by the monumental travertine cliff, located just opposite to them. It is a place where the spring has dried up, so in its honour, there was a cross together with a memorial erected.
