Birth house Cpt. Nálepka in Smižany was opened to the public in 1971. Since then visitors and new generations can recognize the personality of Cpt. John Nálepka and his activities in the anti-fascist resistance during World War II.
Birth house Cpt. Nálepka was reconstructed to give it its original appearance from the first half of the 20th century. The front and back room with kitchen are equipped with original folk furniture with accessories.
Personal items of Cpt. Nálepka are installed in the showcases. Ján Nálepka and his parents, including letters and documents related to his student, teacher, and military life. Captain Ján Nálepka died as a 30-year-old in the liberation of the Ukrainian town Ovruč.
Birth house Cpt. Ján Nálepka forms an integral part of the Spiš Folk Culture Exposition, administered by the Spiš Museum in Spišská Nová Ves.
