If you want to use your free time not only for a walk through the flower beds and tree alleys, but also to learn a bit, visit the Borová Hill Arboretum.
The Borová Hill Arboretum is located only 3 kilometers from Zvolen, nestled in the riverside of Hron. This unique facility of its kind in Slovakia is the scientific and pedagogical workplace of the Technical University in Zvolen.
The unique arboretum began to be built in 1965 and has received a respectable area of 50 hectares to date. In 1981, it was declared a protected area.
Visitors are offered a breathtaking view of more than 1,000 forms and cultivars of various species of wood. It can also boast of a very valuable collection of more than 600 rose types, especially from the Czechoslovak but also the world's major breeders and about the same number of interesting and varied species of succulent plants.
During the year, two major events are organized in the arboretum. It is the time when the arboretum is open on weekends too: Rhododendron Week and Rose Week.
The guide can also direct you through the area, providing an expert commentary in Slovak or English. You can end the tour, for example, by buying room plants (all year round) or diverse trees (from April to October).
