

The Botanical Garden in Banská Štiavnica is located in beautiful surroundings on the adjacent grounds of the former building of the Mining and Forestry Academy, founded in 1762 by Maria Theresa as the first university of its kind in the world.
The founder of the botanical garden in Banská Štiavnica is Rudolf Feistmantl, a professor of forestry, who in 1838 provided for the needs of the Forestry Institute the purchase of a building called Fortúna and adjacent land. On these plots in 1838 - 1839 planted the first tree species.
The Botanical Garden is a great place to organize either a school trip or a family trip, during which you can get good energy and learn a lot of attractions. The location of the garden itself also provides bench seating and asphalt pavements with good finishes, along with mothers with strollers.
The total area of the botanical garden is 3,545 ha and at present 220 species of tree species can be seen here. The most important is the* Lebanese cedar, or the popular *giant sequoia, which is a majestic giant among trees.
The tour of the Botanical Garden takes about 20-40 minutes, while it is open seasonally. There are several entrances to the garden and are open to the public.
