The Botanical Garden of the Slovak University of Agriculture (SPU) in Nitra is located directly on the premises of the university. It offers visitors a rich range of plant collections from various regions of the world. The Botanical Garden is a scientific and pedagogical workplace of the Slovak University of Technology in Nitra with university-wide scope.
This botanical garden has a specific position among botanical gardens and arboretums in the Slovak Republic because it also serves as an agrobotanical garden.
With its rich collections of agriculturally important crop plants and demonstrating technologies of their cultivation, protection, use up to the evaluation of production quality, it is unique in Slovakia and its surroundings. It consists of separate units, which are a park, kindergarten, orchard, greenhouses, vivarium and office building.
The botanical garden also boasts a rich collection of tropical and subtropical plants grown in greenhouses. Ornamental, useful, carnivorous, as well as succulents and cacti plants are represented here. There are also valuable specimens of Orchids and Bromelia.
Part of the Botanical Garden is also the University vivarium of SPU, whose main activity is the reptile breeding.
