An extraordinary historical monument in Modrý Kameň is the late baroque Calvary. It is located directly above the town in the nature reserve "Modrokamenská lesostep" (Forest steppe of Modrý Kameň). It was probably founded at the beginning of the 18th century by Count Pavel Balaša.
The complex of sacral buildings carries late Baroque elements. The central building is an open rectangular chapel with an altar with the sculpture of Calvary - Christ on the cross and two other crosses with thieves. Calvary consists of 2 chapels and 10 Stations of the Cross. Behind the Calvary, there is a 6-meter-high cross dating back to 1863. The cross was built in memory of Cardinal Ján Szcitovský.
Calvary is already visible from a distance and from the hill, there are beautiful views of the surroundings. You can get to the first chapel on a slightly rising forest road, but then you have to prepare for a few rocks and a slightly steeper climb.
