Almost every town or village in Slovakia has its own calvary. Even Hliník nad Hronom is not an exception. Calvary is hidden in the beautiful surroundings of the local forests. The area of Calvary is quite extensive and extends beyond the cemetery on a small hill of Zmíňa.
The individual chapels are arranged symmetrically in three rows and are connected by a serpentine path with a slight ascent and descent. Stations of the Cross were established in 1903-1904. In each chapel you can admire scenes that are painted on sheet metal.
On the to, there is the Chapel of St. Cross and represents the first ever building in Calvary. A little further is the sculpture of Golgotha, which consists of three stone crosses with metal bodies of Christ and thieves. This spectacle is the 12th stop.
You will also enjoy beautiful views of Hliník nad Hronom or the entire Pohronie region during the transition between stops . Calvary is a pleasant place for short and undemanding walks. At the same time, however, it is a pilgrimage site where several pilgrimages take place several times a year.
