Part of the Banská Bystrica castle complex as well as the Mining Bastion is the so-called Matthias House, which has been standing here since 1479. It bears its name in honour of the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus, and therefore on the facade of the house, alongside the coat of arms, is also the coat of arms of King Matthias and his wife Beatrix.
Today the premises of this historic building are the seat of the Central Slovak Museum. The first museum exhibition dedicated to the history of Banská Bystrica was inaugurated here on 17 October 1909.
Even today, visitors can admire the original permanent exhibition, whose glory and glory has been restored exactly to the centenary since the opening of the first exhibition. Part of the exposition in the Matthias House is dedicated to important personalities and mayors of Banská Bystrica. The exhibition of Gothic sculptures and paintings, which are rarities of Slovak and European significance, is also interesting for many visitors.
