The dominating feature of the village of Čerín is the early-Gothic church of St. Martin from the beginning of the 14th century. It is one of the most precious monuments in the vicinity of Banská Bystrica. The church is set in a beautiful setting. When you visit it, you will feel like you are in a medieval England.
Its exterior is decorated with remarkable medieval wall paintings, which have been preserved in very good condition or other valuable works of art. The pride of the church is the impressive 17th-century wooden bell tower, which is surrounded by a stone defense wall with embrasures.
The church has a wooden painted ceiling from the 16th century. Part of the interior of the church is equally painted empora. The main altar is Baroque, since the original Gothic altar from 1483 was taken by Master of Kremnica to Budapest.
Part of the church is also a fortification, which was built in the times, when Turkish ambush groups penetrated the village of Čerín, and also a wooden bell tower from the 17th century. Currently, both monuments have been restored.
Worships are also regularly held in the church.
