Although the town of Dolný Kubín is influenced by modern times, there can be still found streets and places full of history. A whiff of past times will bring you the Colonnade Bridge, which leads over the Orava River and connects the old part of the town with the town district of Veľký Bysterec.
The colonnade bridge in Dolný Kubín is one of the most remarkable technical monuments and is a rarity on the Slovak and Central European scale. You can admire such a unique wooden bridge only in Switzerland, France or Bohemia.
The bridge is entirely made of wood - except for the supports on which the bridge stands. The shingle covers the roof. The colonnade bridge in Dolný Kubín was built in 1994 as a replacement for the older and already broken bridge.
The Colonnade Bridge is one of the most attractive and most photographed objects in the town. Part of the bridge are small kiosks and nearby, there is a marketplace built in a similar style to the bridge. A beautiful romantic idyll is created by the bridge upon the river especially during the evening when it is beautifully lit.
