The underground beneath the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Malacky conceals ancient crypts. This underground was built about 350 years ago by the Franciscans for the deceased members of their order. Underground atmosphere is mysterious and evokes goose flesh to every visitor.
Under the church, in a narrow and cold underground corridor, there are crypts of about two hundred deceased. Not only Franciscan monks, but also important and wealthy burghers, who believed in the ancient cult of body integrity, found their last rest here. In the chapel of St. Anna, added to the original church about 100 years ago, there are crypts of several of last members of Pálffi family from Malacky.
Crypts now serve as an exhibition. In addition to the crypts, visitors can also see a number of valuables, including the heart of Ján Pálfi, stored in a silver cassette. It is certainly worth seeing the church itself with the chapel, where there is a faithful copy of the stairs that Christ walked to Pilate.
The crypts under the Franciscan Church are open upon request if you book at least one day in advance by telephone.
