On the outskirts of the village of Kráľovský Chlmec, you can find the remains of the Csonkavár Castle. It was built after 1526 by rebuilding an older fortress. To date, only a small part of this building has been preserved. You can especially admire the perfectly preserved windows and the almost undisturbed arches of the barrel vault.
There are few written references to Csonkavár Castle, thus, little is known about the origin of the castle and its functions. Csonkavár was demolished in 1548 at the behest of King Ferdinand I and is considered to be the shortest functioning castle in Slovakia and the whole former Hungarian Kingdom.
The castle ruins are easily accessible. The town's amphitheater and historic cottage with Perényi's tavern are also in close proximity.
