The village of Radoľa near Kysucké Nové Mesto is one of the few that can boast of an important archaeological site in Kysuce, which abounds with the remains of a medieval church in the fortified area.
This extinct medieval church is considered to be the oldest in the region of Kysuce. The church was built in the early Gothic style and at the time served the people of the whole Kysuce region. There was also a burial ground nearby.
Historical sources provide little information about the church, so we can only guess how long the church fulfilled its function. However, this church probably disappeared during the devastating Hussite raids in the 15th century.
Archaeological findings at this site documented settlement at the end of the Neolithic and during the Bronze Age. The site also found a valuable carved statuette from the 14th century, which came to Radoľa from Western Europe.
