The enchanting ice kingdom, which has survived for thousands of years even during the greatest heat, can be found in the underground cave areas of the famous Demänovská Ice Cave.
Demänovská Cave is located at the entrance to the Demänovská Valley. It is only 9 km from the nearest town, Liptovský Mikuláš.
Demänovská Ice Cave represents the northern part of the world-famous Demänovské Caves. After the Dobšinská Ice Cave, it is the second largest cave of its kind in Slovakia. It was known already in the Middle Ages, but it was made available only in the 1880s.
It attracts attention mainly by its chilling but beautiful permanent ice filling, bizarre and massive shapes of underground spaces or rare cave fauna.
The Demänovská Cave is situated on four floors with a total length of almost 2.5 km. Visitors can enjoy a 850 m (45-minute) guided tour.
The car park is located under the cave entrance, which is reached by a serpentine path. The entrance to the cave is located in the Bašta Reef at an altitude of 840 m. Visitors descend to the lower floors from there.
