The villa of Dominik Skutecký with the garden is a unique family villa, which was built in Banská Bystrica by the painter Dominik Skutecký according to his artistic taste and admiration for Italian culture. It provides visitors with a unique tour of Dominik Skutecký's permanent exhibition, commemorates the dramatic history of his family and offers relaxation in the original city park garden.
The exhibition presents the painter's work influenced by his many years of work in Vienna and Venice. Skutecký's work is characterized by the control of the qualities of old Italian painting. The tour includes his famous paintings with epic scenes from the famous Venetian temples and nooks and the scenes of Banská Bystrica's urban life from the end of the Habsburg monarchy and portraiture.
The family villa's genius loci is marked by the tragic events of World War II, when the Skutecký-Karvaš family was persecuted for their Jewish origin.

„Co sa o vile pisalo v roku 1988 v Priekopniku? Otvoreny list riaditela Stredoslovenskych uholnych skladov. Pod nazvom Inšpiracia z uvodnika sme v 21. čisle Priekopnika uverejnili podnetny list prednostu oddelenia sudneho lekarstva KUNZ v BB MUDr. Pavla Jablonskeho, tykajuci sa zachrany domu Skuteckeho pre kulturne učely. Kedže članok poukazuje aj na chatranie objektu a necitlive zasahy do jeho interieru, nezanechal bez povšimnutia terajšieho uživatela . Riaditel podniku Stredoslovenskych uholnych skladov JUDr. Jozef Hrudkay nam poslal kopiu listu, ktory adresoval autorovi članku. Piše sa v nom: v članku ste nas ako uživatelov objektu na Hornej ulici č.55, domu, ktory postavil a v ktorom pracoval D. Skutecky piamo napadli, citujem: necitlive zasahy do interieru tejto budovy, pričom k takemu tvrdeniu, ktore ste verejne publikovali nemate žiadne opodstatnenie. Nas podnik vznikol dnom 1.1. 1981 rozhodnutim SKNV. zriadovatel podniku ani dislokačne organy mesta allebo okresu nam neposkytli pre našu činnost žiadne prevadzkove priestory. priestori sme ziskali od byvalych vlastnikov domu č 55 , ktorymi boli bratia Jan a Juraj BELUŚOVCI. Dom sme od vlastnikov kupili. v čase kupy bol dom aj s prilahlymi hospodarskymi budovami, dvorom, a zahradou v DEZOLATNOM STAVE. po kupe domu smr boli upozorneni že ide o pamiatkovy objekt. v maji 1981 sme poziadali krajske stredisko štatnej pam. star. a ochran. prirody v BB a zaujatie stanoviska k zamyslanej rekonstrukcii /oprava strechy a nove prestrešenie, zavedenie ustredneho kurenia aj do spodnej casti domu, napojenie na plynove kurenie a prestavat šopy na garaže pre osobne vozidla.) Tento organ nam vyslovil suhlas vyhradil si len schvalenie projektovej dokumentacie. Dom bol postaveny roku 1896. Predchadzajuci vlastnici vykonali rozne prestavby interieru aj exterieru ktorymi zasiahli aj pamiatkove cennu fasadu a priečelia budovy. to v tom čase nevadilo, všetky zasahy boli vykonane bez povolenia organov a BEZ ZAUJMU O TENTO OBJEKT. Nataz velky zaujem vznikol v roku 1988 ked sme ho viac menej ZACHRANILI PRED CELKOVYM UPADKOM jeho samotneho ako aj priestorov dvora, zahrady a oplotenia. Tvdenia že sme zasiahli do interieru budovy sa nezaklada na pravde............................takto sa o dme na HORNEJ ulici č 55 v B.Bystrici pisalo v roku 1988...Dom D. Skuteckeho by dnes neexistoval, nebit starostlivosti o dom noveho vlastnika Stredoslovenskych uholnych skladov...“
