In the southeastern part of the Licinská Uplands, there is the natural monument of Breakthrough of Muráň. In this locality, the Muráň River is surrounded by a narrow canyon valley, which is 3.5 km long and up to 100 m deep.
Breakthrough of Muráň includes an educational trail that begins in the village of Bretka under an old church. Tourists get acquainted with the geological conditions of the area as well as with natural attractions and monuments.
The path leads from the village Bretka through the magical natural scenery to boulder called Peško, in the middle of which is the cave of the same name. The educational trail is lined with 6 information boards in Slovak, English and Hungarian.
The educational trail of Breakthrough of Muráň continues through the modified route to the valley to the end of the breakthrough. Visible traces of the trough will lead you to the water mill. Subsequently, only a slight climb to the slope awaits you and then the path descends and penetrates into a distinctive hole in the rock with the Hutnianska Cave.
The educational trail ends at Stará huta, which once was a nail factory. Even today, it is possible to observe its ruins with the naked eye. The educational trail of Breakthrough of Muráň is one of less demanding trails, where you walk at a quiet pace and get to know not only nature but also the local history. The length of the trail is 3.2 km long, with a slight elevation of around 66 m.
