In 1955, District Museum of National History of the Upper Liptov people was founded in Liptovský Hrádok, which was a kind of predecessor of the current Ethnographic Museum. Organizationally, it is affiliated to the Liptov Museum in Ružomberok. The museum is located in the premises of the Salt Office building.
It offers visitors 5 permanent expositions:
HISTORICAL SALT WAY - through works of art and textual material, it shows the history of the salt trade and the paths through which this precious raw material came to Liptovský Hrádok.
BLUE PRINTING IN LIPTOV - presents the history of blueprinting as a guild craft in Liptov region, folk clothing and home textile from blueprint, exhibition of blueprint forms. The exhibition also includes the reconstruction of the workshop of the last master Daniel Žiška of Hybe.
BOBBIN LACE GALLERY - presents the beauty of Liptov bobbin lace, characteristic patterns of hat lace, lace used in folk clothing and home textile.
OFFICE OF PREFECT OF LIKAVA - HRÁDOK CHAMBER ESTATE - an exhibition dedicated to period furniture with a rich collection of hunting trophies, which shows the period of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
EXPOSITION OF SHEEPING - specialized exposition of shepherd culture is installed in the attic of the historical building. It presents the cultural traditions associated with traditional forms of sheep breeding. Among the exhibits exhibited are wooden mountain buildings, utility items for processing sheep's milk, as well as clothing and characteristic clothing accessories for sheepdogs from several regions of Slovakia.
