The village of Terchová is the birthplace of the most famous Slovak brigand Juraj Jánošík. The museum exposition dedicated not only to Jánošík but also to development of Terchová can be found in the building of the Municipal Office in Terchová on the first floor.
The exposition itself is quite extensive, and therefore it is divided into several thematic units, which, however, give a comprehensive and comprehensive picture of the history and ethnography of Terchová. However, the center of the exhibition is Juraj Jánošík, who is an important personality and legend.
The entrance part of the exposition is tuned in the style of a traditional Terchová room, which has traditional furniture, accessories and tools that made everyday life easier at that time. The part of the exposition dedicated to Juraj Jánošík informs the visitor about important historical facts about his life, briganding and execution. The exhibits also include such items as rack, mug, handcuffs, wide belt or sheephook.
The influence of Jánošík's personality and tradition was also reflected in Slovak art and literature. In the central part of the exposition, visitors can see elements of folk art presenting numerous wooden sculptures, painted ceramics, glass paintings, copper reliefs and drawings with Jánošík themes.
The most precious exhibit is the massive oil painting by Ľudovit Fulla from 1955, which depicts Jánošík on horseback as an immortal hero fighting for the righteousness of the common people. The Jánošík and Terchová expositions are part of the Považské Museum in Žilina.
