The picturesque village of Župkov - part of Horný Župkov is rich in beautiful nature, typical rural atmosphere and unique ore wealth. The village lying under the majestic arms of the volcano Vtáčnik is a unique deposit of the rare mineral tetradymit.
This site is now located in a buried pit below the Angletovci settlement. Tetradymite is present in white lump of decomposed propylitized andesite, in decomposed andesite tuffs, and in andesite conglomerates.
The first finder of tetradymite in this locality is considered Mr A. Wehrle. This rare mineral has been studied by a number of experts and who sought to elucidate its chemical composition. The place also gained attention of Andrej Kmeť and F. Kabin, who called this mineral ŽUPKOVIT.
The Župkov deposit of bismuth tetradymite at the foot of the stratovolcano of Vtáčnik is insignificant from the mining point of view, but it can be regarded as mineralogically remarkable and certainly very attractive for tourists.
The village is equipped with orientation tables with a description of the deposit, which will not only bring you to the site itself, but also includes lot of interesting information about this unique place. There is also a tasteful rest area where you can relax or roast.
