The karst area of the Low Tatras is full of natural beauty. These breathtaking unique features include the Ohnište Hill with its rocky window. The high limestone cliffs of this hill are brightly bleached between the greenish color of the coniferous trees, while from a distance, they promise a very interesting ascend for tourists.
The Ohnište Massif is also a national nature reserve, so you do not have to worry about the abundance of interesting and unique karst formations or natural forest stands of primeval character. At every step you have something to admire.
The exit below Ohnište leads through a marked hiking trail. No official hiking trail leads further to the top and thus to the monumental rock window. The path leads through a dense forest and a steep climb is to be expected.
The very top offers nice views especially of rocky cliffs of this hill and the main ridge of the Low Tatras. Access to the rocky window leads beneath the high rock walls. Through the rock window, you can see the unobstructed view of the beautiful Low Tatras with the northern walls of Ďumbier Hill and the surrounding nature.
The impressive rocky window is 10 meters high. It was formed by gradual erosion in precipitation water-soluble minerals. However, the site is also full of other smaller but less attractive attractive windows, gates and vaults.
Ohnište Hill is accessible by marked hiking trails. Popular starting points are the villages Liptovský Ján (about 8 km), Liptovský Hrádok (about 8 km), but also Malužiná (about 6 km).
