If you've ever been to Dolny Kubin, you must have at least passed a nice craft house surrounded by beautiful greenery in a quiet location near Hviezdoslav Square. It is Florin's house, the roots of which date back to the 18th century.
The two-storey house, originally a dye house, was first owned by Jozef Kohúth, an important historian and monograph of Orava. Later, the house became the property of the Herkel family. Between 1953 and 1973, the poet, journalist, diplomat and enlightenment worker Teodor Herkeľ Florin lived there.
Florin focused mainly on cultural and organizational activities, editorial and publishing work. It was Florin, who was responsible for organizing a nationwide show of the artistic recitation - Hviezdoslavov Kubín. Hviezdoslav himself was an organizational secretary for eight years.
Today, the Theo Herkeľ Florin Memorial Room is installed in the house together with the original furnishings from the time when the poet lived there. His poetry collections, personal items and various biographical text - text materials are also exhibited here.
There are also exhibition spaces used by the Orava Museum as the house manager for short-term thematic exhibitions, presenting mainly social and natural science collections.
