In the picturesque surroundings of the Vydrovská Valley near Čierny Balog, the Forestry Open-Air Museum was founded, which is the only one in Slovakia.

The location of the open-air museum, which is made up of a 4 km long trail of "forest time", will draw your attention from the very first moment. Everything is beautifully arranged as if it has always been there.

Here, you will find more than 86 interesting sites with a history, present and future forestry topic. A very impressive addition to the complex are the natural works of the international Ekoart art group.

Attractive is the access by the Čiernohronská forest railway, which will take you from Hronec or Čierny Balog directly to the Vydrovo - Skanzen (Open-air museum) stop. However, if you prefer hiking, the circuit of the Black Balog Educational Trail is a great choice for you.

A detailed tour of the forest open-air museum takes almost a day. However, there are also shorter routes which you can get to know on the information board at the entrance / ticket office of the museum.

The entrance to the forest open-air museum is subject to a symbolic entrance fee during the season, but it is also accessible outside the season, but at that time it is deprived of several exhibits that are transferred to the depository for the winter.
