On the Hodžovo square in Bratislava, there is a beautiful Rococo building, which is the dominant of the wider surroundings. It is the Garasalkovich Palace, which was built in 1760 as a summer palace for the President of the Hungarian Royal Chamber and Advisor to the Empress Maria Theresa, Count Anton Grassalkovich. In the past, it was also a popular place of social life of the nobility.
Today the luxurious Grasalkovich Palace is the seat of the office of the President of the Slovak Republic. The palace also serves as a palace for the reception of prominent guests who enter the palace through the courtyard with a guard of honor. The official hall of acceptance and signing of important contracts is the main hall on the first floor with partially original gold stucco decoration.
The valuable chapel of the palace is the Chapel of St. Barbara with original rococo and classicist frescoes. Grasalkovič Palace is normally closed for visitors, but the garden behind the Presidential Palace serves the public and is a popular place for walks of residents and visitors of Bratislava.
