The largest and deepest mountain lake on the Slovak side of the High Tatras is called the Veľké Hincovo pleso (Great Hincovo Mountain Lake). It is not unknown to Tatra tourists and therefore it has no lack of numerous visitors. It lies below the majestic Kôprovský Peak at the end of the Mengusovská Valley.
The Great Hincovo Mountain Lake is of glacial origin and is evidence of the glaciation of the Tatras in the older Quaternary. The lake is 740 meters long and 370 meters wide. Its depth reaches an* impressive 53 meters, and has *no surface inflow. Hincov brook flows from the lake and there are **small lakes nearby, the so-called Hincové oká.
An interesting feature of the Great Hincovo Mountain Lake is that it has a clear blue color. Beautiful color and crystal clear water allows you to see up to a depth of 12 meters, which can not be observed at any other lake in Slovakia. In addition, you will be enchanted by the surrounding, unmistakable panorama, dominated by steep rock massifs, beautiful nature or fresh alpine air.
The hike to the Great Hinc Ball is moderately challenging. The route leading to the lake is about 8.5 kilometers long and takes about half a day to complete. The marked hiking trail starts at Štrbské Pleso. On the way, you can stop at the Popradské Mountain Lake or at the symbolic cemetery of the victims of the High Tatras.
