Veľké Biele pleso (Great White Mountain Lake) will enchant you at first sight with its beautiful glittering surface, which reflects the surrounding nature and majestic Tatra peaks. It is the largest of all White lakes the White Water Valley. It lies at an altitude of 1,612 m above sea level in the very end of the valley.
Great White Mountain Lake is a moraine lake with a depth of max. one meter. The lake has a surface tributary from the Nižná Žeruchová Basin and the White Stream flows from it. Its shores are covered with scrub, which gradually turns into mountain meadows.
From the lake, there are nice views of the High and Belianske Tatras. Near the Great White Mountain Lake, there is second largest lake of the valley called the Three-cornered Lake. The site is also a crossroads of several hiking trails: to the Plesnivec chalet, to the Šalvejový prameň (Salvia Spring) or to the Kopské Saddle, from where you can continue to Monková Valley to Ždiar or Tatranská Javorina.
The easiest way is to follow the marked tourist path from Tatranské Matliare (about 8 km) or Tatranská Lomnica - Štart station (about 7 km).
