The eastern Slovak town of Medzev and its close surroundings was one of the most productive areas in metal processing in the past. The tradition of ironmongery and smithery is still felt today, thanks to the historical equipment or rather the workshop, which used to process metals, steel and iron, the so called Hamor.
Hamor in Medzev, originally Tischler's Hamor, is now a branch of the Slovak Technical Museum. Hamor in Medzev is a type of single-faced double-shaft hamor, while it is also a combined building (stone - wood) originating from the second half of the 19th century.
Hamor is located in the center of the town and its archaic character is enhanced by the water supply system to the wheel, where the use of energy of running water was driven by forge hammers, blowers and mosses to blow air into the furnaces.
This live technical monument is open to the public. Hamor has no precise visiting days or opening hours. Visitors must order at least 3 days in advance by phone or by order at the Municipal services company in Medzev.
