The southwestern part of the Volovské Hills is rich in several distinctive and very attractive hills. One of them is Hekerová Hill, which rises above the village of Uhorná. Already from a distance, this rugged massif promises truly impressive views, as well as good accessibility and easy hike.
The Hekerová Hill is not one of the most visited hills, so only few tourists will come along the way. The advantage, however, is that you can enjoy this tour more privately. In addition, the surrounding forests are overflowing with forest fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and mushrooms in autumn.
From deforested peaks, you will get a vast range of views. Kráľova and Kojšovská hoľa (grassy uplands), the Zlatý stôl (Golden Table Hill), and even the High Tatras, if the weather i favourable. In the summit meadow, you can take a seat, relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty.
Under the southern slope of Hekerová Hill, there is** a pilgrimage chapel of Our Lady of the Snows** near the village of Úhorná. A little below the summit of Hekerová, there is a yellow marked hiking trail passing from Smolník (about 6 km away), from which you can angle to an unmarked turning leading to the top.
You can also go to Hekerová Hill from other municipalities, such as Úhorná, Stará voda, Pače, Čučma or Rožňava. In this case, the road will take you through the saddle beneath the White Rocks.
