One of the landmarks of Master Paul Square in Levoča is the historic building of the Renaissance town hall. The town hall was probably built around the middle of the 15th century and over the centuries, it underwent many building alterations. It got its current form during the reconstruction in 1893 - 1895.
At present, the town hall houses an exhibition devoted to the history of the town of Levoča from its inception to the present and is one of the most visited exhibitions in Levoča. On the second floor of the town hall, the museum presents rich art collections ranging from Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque to the Spiš region. In 2001, a long-term exposition of ethnographic character called “Beauty Woven by Threads ” was opened, which represents the area of folk textiles and blueprint in Spiš.
Among the most valuable exhibited items is a unique statue of St. Mary Magdalene from around 1420, Gothic sculptures and altars, Renaissance and Baroque paintings or icons that will enchant you with their artistic beauty and spiritual message.
The permanent exhibition space is complemented by an exhibition hall, which serves for thematic and occasional exhibitions. In 2000, the exhibition space was enriched with a “small exhibition hall”, in which exhibitions of study and chamber character with unusual access to the exhibited works are presented to the public.
