The picturesque town of Orava region - Dolny Kubin - is full of several historical monuments and mysterious places that emit history. One of them is a historic cemetery, whose roots date back to 1866, when Leopold Bruck, an Orava poet and a prominent member of the Educational Society in Orava, was buried here.
During that time, many other important Orava personalities, who greatly influenced the development of cultural life in Slovakia, found their place of their last rest here. In 1877, it was Janko Matuška, and he was followed by others. The historical cemetery became more famous especially in 1921, when the grave of the Slovak poet Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav was added here.
The historic cemetery in Dolny Kubin is part of the historic center of the city and is often visited by tourists or pupils and students as part of school trips.
