In the middle of the maple alley in Šahy, there are three meters high and richly decorated chapels, which are part of the Hont Calvary. Built in 1907, Calvary is a comprehensive artistic-historical work set in a picturesque landscape, highlighting the spiritual character of the sacred place.
At the top of the Dog Hill, around which the Calvary is built, there are statues of Christ and two thieves. From the slope on Calvary, there are beautiful views of the Ipeľ Valley and the panorama of the town, the towers of the Roman Catholic church, as well as the Štiavnica Hills with Sitno or the hills in Hungary in the distance.
The Hont Calvary in Šahy is not only a pilgrimage place or a place for spiritual meditation, but also a location for pleasant and unassuming weekend walks.
