The Muranska Plain will captivate you with one of the best preserved and most precious locations in Slovakia, which is still a bit outside the massive attention of tourists. The heart of the Muránska Plain consists mainly of charming valleys, such as the Hrdzavá dolina (Rusted Valley).
It is an eight kilometer-long canyon-shaped valley that has been modeled over the centuries by the Rusty Creek trough. It is located northwest of the village of Muráň and it was cut into the limestone massif of the plain really deep.
Wandering through the valley, you can admire the beautiful creations of nature - huge boulders, steep limestone cliffs surrounded by conifers or interesting karst forms such as caves, rock bridge, rock windows, towers and needles.
A yellow marked trail leads through the whole valley from the village of Muráň to the Nižná Kľaková saddle. The walkway is easy to climb, as it usually leads along an asphalt forest road. The valley is dominated by the distinctive rock wall "Rozštiepená skala" and at the bottom of the valley, there is the 76 m high rock tower Ťureň.
A large part of the Rusted Valley has been declared a national nature reserve, as it is one of the most valuable natural parks in the national park with rare plant, animal and forest communities.
