The ruins of Hričov Castle lie above the village of Hričovské Podhradie. The name "Hríčov" is derived from the word "grič" - i.e. rock, rocky. The castle offers impressive views of the surrounding countryside and mountains.
The first Slavic settlement in this locality was here already in the 9th century during Great Moravia. However, the castle was built in the 13th century and changed its owners regularly over the centuries. For example, it was also a seat of the counterfeit workshop of coins of the Podmanický brothers' In the 17th century, however, the owners moved to more comfortable mansions and the castle gradually became desolated and turned into a ruin.
Hričov Castle is accessible by educational trail from the center of Hričovské Podhradie, from where it is just over 1 km. The walkway forms a circle around the castle site and consists of 20 carved boards focused on the history of the castle, fauna and flora of the surroundings. The route also includes 3 smaller caves.
