The Museum of Hungarian Culture in Slovakia is a specialized museum of the Slovak National Museum. It focuses on the history, material and spiritual culture of Hungarians in Slovakia. The museum is housed in the Brämer Curia dating back to the second half of the 16th century. In addition to the permanent exhibition installed in this historic building, the museum also has extended exhibitions in Dolná Strehová and Sklabiná.
The permanent exhibition of the museum entitled “Food, Drinks, Dreams… / Étel, ital, álom…” presents the folk culture of Hungarians living in Slovakia through important material and spiritual monuments from the areas of traditional economy, home crafts, housework, housing culture, clothing, folk arts and customs from the mid-19th century to the present.
The exhibits are complemented by photographs of László Albert Arany and Július Lipcsey from the 1940s and 1950s. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum also offers visitors a wide range of events or temporary exhibitions that complement and expand the permanent exhibition by their concept.
