Very nice and frequently visited mountain lakes of western part of Tatras include Jamnické lakes. They are located in the beautiful surroundings of the highest part of the Jamnická Valley. It is bordered by the Volovec hill, which offers excellent hiking opportunities.
There are two Jamnické Lakes - Upper and Lower. The Upper Lake is often also called Higher Lake. It is embed in a beautiful environment, surrounded by dwarf mountain pine vegetation. Its depth is 3.5 meters. The Lower Jamnické Lake is the biggest lake in the valley. It reaches a depth of up to 8.2 m.
Both lakes are accessible by a blue tourist trail, which leads through the whole Úzka and Jamnícka valley from Pribilina (about 9 km). However, you can also choose some more challenging and longer routes. Their visit can be connected with the exit to Ostrý Roháč or Plačlivé.
