The most famous park in Bratislava is definitely the Janko Kráľ Orchard, which is situated on the right bank of the Danube. It was founded in 1774-76 and obtained its present appearance only in 1839. It is the oldest public park in Central Europe and one of the oldest Central European parks ever.
Janko Kráľ Orchard covers 42 hectares and is for many Bratislava citizens a relaxing place, an oasis of peace or a place for cultural, social and sports activities of individuals and groups of all ages.
The dominant feature of the park is the Gothic tower, which is used as a gazebo. In the very heart of the park, there is a statue of the prominent Slovak nationalist and writer Janko Kráľ. The Janko Kráľ Orchard is also decorated with charming fountains. The most beautiful one is called Drinking Doves and consists of a pool and a fountain part.
The great natural wealth here is also to be mentioned. There are huge trees and rich and colorful flora everywhere around. Between the flower beds and the woods, there are seats, which are created in circular spaces and decorated with elements of the zodiac and signs.
