The historic Late Renaissance building of the school in Spišská Belá is now the seat of the J.M Petzval Museum. The museum is named after a prominent mathematician, physicist, inventor, founder of modern optics and photography - Dr. Ing. Joseph Maximilian Petzval.
A permanent exhibition is dedicated to the work and life of this important 19th-century European scientist. Among other things, it chronologically makes available to visitors the devices and aids of the most varied types from Petzval's time to the latest demonstrations of photographic technology.
Visitors can also preview today's telephoto, wide-angle, and aerial photography lenses. A unique exhibit is certainly Krügener's detective pocket chamber in the form of a book. A rich collection of exhibited items offers a brief look at the beginnings of photography and photography - from camera obscura to the first photograph.
The atmosphere and the beginnings of indoor photography are reminiscent of a well-arranged photo studio that will take you to the beginning of the 20th century. Among the exhibits there are some types of Kodaks, such as the famous folk device Vest - Pocket - Kodak (pocket Kodak). The JM Petzval Museum offers visitors a truly impressive and unique exhibition. The museum is a branch of the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice.
