The historical heart of the town of Banská Štiavnica consists of period burgher houses. In three of them, decorated with beautiful ornamental facade decoration, houses the Jozef Kollár Gallery, which is named after an important native of Banská Štiavnica and a representative of Slovak visual modernism. The gallery offers a tour of the unique permanent exhibition, which is complemented by seasonal exhibitions.
The exhibition presents an extremely valuable collection of works of art created in Banská Štiavnica and other mining regions of Slovakia.In collections we can find unique works dated from the 13th century to the present. They thematize mining activities and testify to the historical, cultural and socio-economic importance of the Banská Štiavnica region.
Part of the gallery's program focus is also the presentation of works of art reflecting topics such as global climate change, nature conservation, ecologically sustainable human functioning in the country, etc.
