Description
Koloman Sokol Gallery is located in the center of Liptovský Mikuláš, in the oldest secular building from the 15th century, the former seat of the family of feudal nobleman Pongrác. The gallery was founded in 2002 under the name Koloman Sokol Center.
Koloman Sokol was a significant Slovak graphic artist and painter, who was born in Liptovský Mikuláš, but has worked mainly in Prague, Paris, Mexico, and since the late 40s, also in the USA. The permanent exhibition in the gallery documents Sokol's varied work. There are exhibited graphics and a set of drawings that the artist donated to Slovakia.
The exhibition is supplemented by documentary materials, facts, personal items and photographs, which are the property of the civic association Koloman Sokol. There is an exhibition hall on the ground floor of the gallery, which provides space for personalities of Slovak graphic art, new names in Slovak art, but also for foreign artists. Regular temporary exhibitions and events are also held here.
