Beautiful and patulous Greater Fatra is in its western part highlighted by Kopa Hill. It towers above the villages of Stankovany and Ľubochňa and rises very steeply from the Váh Valley, making it a natural landmark of the region.
The scenery where Kopa Hill stands majestically and the Váh is forcing its way through the narrow “strait” between the Greater and Little Fatra is truly magical. The Kopa Hill is completely covered with forest and you will enjoy such views only in autumn and winter when the trees are leafless.
And you can enjoy the beauty of the forest scenery even more as they are nicely interwoven with various rock formations. There are also bickering streams or beautiful flora. You will see picturesque corners at every step you take.
However, if you still seek for a magnificent outlook, go down the Kopa Hill and take a turn to the observation rock plateau with a cross, from which there is quite a nice view of the Váh river, the village of Stankovany, Šípska Fatra, as well as Greater Choč and the peaks of Little Fatra.
The Kopa Hill is accessible by marked hiking trails. From the village of Ľubochňa (about 5 km away), you can reach Kopa Hill in 2 hours after the red hiking trail. The starting point for trips can also be Stankovany (about 5 km away) or Krpeľany (about 6 km away).
