Description
Krakova hoľa (grassy uplands) is a popular low-mountain peak. This massive, limestone hill is characterized by steep slopes and a dense dwarf tree protruding from the top.
It lies outside the main ridge of the mountains above Demänovská and Jánska Valley. Thanks to the appearance of its location, as well as the altitude, The Krakova hoľa is undoubtedly the landmark of this region. The eastern and southern parts belong to the Ďumbier National Nature Reserve with 5th degree of protection.
In the massif of Krakow, there are the deepest abysses - the Starý hrad (Old Castle), the Maple Abyss, the Záskoč Cave. The rich karst system of Krakova hoľa is often considered the most extensive in Slovakia. However, none of the caves is accessible, so this enchanting natural wealth remains hidden for future generations. The ascent to Krakova hoľa is a moderately challenging hike, with steeper slopes and a demanding climb. On the other hand,the top will reward you with beautiful views of Liptov Basin, High and Western Tatras, Little Fatra, or Kráľová hoľa.
There are several marked hiking trails leading to Krakova hoľa. The starting point of the tour can be the Demänovská Cave of Liberty (about 6 km awat), Iľanovo (about 11 km away), the village of Pavčina Lehota or the village of Závažná Poruba.
