The dominating feature of the Square of Liberty in Vrbové is the high clock tower at St. Martin's Church. At first glance, everyone passing by will notice that the tower is a bit slanted. That is why it has a distinctive name - Leaning Tower. Just for the Leaning Tower, Vrbové became a small Slovak Pisa.
The foundation stone of the leaning tower in Vrbové was built in 1832. During long rains in 1930, the tower suddenly tilted due to soil drenching and narrow foundations. The tower is diverted from the vertical axis by 98 cm to the southwest, making it a popular tourist attraction of the city.
The tower is 38.16 meters high including the cross and is built in the Classicist style by masonry master J. Verner of Čachtice. The cost of construction was covered by the church, which still belongs to the building. However, the clock mechanism in the tower is owned by the city.
