Slovakia is part of a large piece of royal history, as evidenced by the number of well-preserved castles, chateaus and ruins. Levice Castle also experienced its glorious times - it was once a strong and impregnable fortress.
The Levice Castle was founded in the second half of the 13th century and its task was to protect the way to the Central Slovak mining towns. It has a good strategic location, situated on a rocky outcrop near the center of Levice. Only the ruins that were preserved in the last century remained from the original Gothic castle.
According to the legend, since the 14th century, a White Lady, who was executed below the castle, has been haunted here and since then she has been bleakly wandering around the castle looking for her children and husband. Another of the legends is linked to the castle well. People call it "Bloody Well" because allegedly, the executioner washed his sword there after executions.
Some of the castle's buildings were repaired as part of monument rescue. The Gothic circular bastion, which now houses a cozy tea room with a romantic view of the castle, has remained fully preserved.
There is a Tekov Museum in the building of the lower manor house, where there are various ethnographic collections from the Tekov area, but also documentation of the development of nature and society to the present.
The ruins of Levice Castle are open to the public.
