Due to its specialization, the Literary and Music Museum in Banská Bystrica is a unique museum not only in Slovakia but also in the whole of Europe. It focuses on the documentation of literary and musical culture as well as personalities of the region of Banská Bystrica and Brezno. The museum is housed in a historic building where writer Ján Botto lived, worked and died.
The museum's collection is quite rich and varied. Almost 60,000 pieces of collection items and documents are presented to visitors not only through exhibitions, but also thematic and monographic exhibitions, conferences and seminars, lectures, concerts or meetings with artists.
