Volovské Hills near the town of Gelnica represent an ideal location for tourists of all ages. If you want to enjoy not only good hiking, but also take a pleasure in the magnificent views, we recommend you to combine the hike with a visit to the lookout tower on Kloptaň Hill.
The lookout tower stands directly on the longest tourist main road - Cesta hrdinov SNP (the Path of the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising). The observation tower rises to a height of 8 meters. It is made of spruce logs, with two landings and a roof. You can reach the observation deck using a ladder located on the back of the shelter.
From the outlook, you can observe beautiful circular views. The close surroundings are dominated by Kojšovská hoľa Hill, in the distance you can see peaks of the High and Low Tatras, followed by the majestic Kráľova hoľa Hill. The Slanské Hills or Slovak Ore Mountains will show you their beauty too.
In close proximity to the lookout tower, there is also a fireplace with benches and a wooden table where you can lay out your staff, relax or grill. The wooden shelter can also be used as a shelter from bad weather or for overnight.
The shortest ascend route to the lookout tower - green tourist trail leads from the village of Mníšek nad Hnilcom (about 5 km long), but it is necessary to overcome up to 700 meters of elevation. Other starting points can be villages like Smolnická Píla, Medzev or Štós.
