Lookout tower on Mačacia

One of the popular tourist outlooks in the Banská Bystrica region is the one that stands at the tourist crossroads called Mačacia (The Cat-like). If you somewhere in the vicinity or if you are planning a trip to Cerovská Highlands, you should definitely stop here.

Mačacia Lookout Tower has a very nice wooden structure, which rises to a height of 8 meters. It has two floors, offering beautiful views and the Šomoška Castle, the Hungarian Castle of Šalgó and its surroundings, as well as the entire charming Cerová Highlands.

There is also a fireplace in the local meadow, where you can roast in case of good weather, as well as a bench where you will be happy to relax.

An excellent way to get to the lookout tower is along the Šomoška educational trail, which can also be taken with children. The route is not difficult and there are several information boards explaining the volcanic activity along the way, as well as the geological structure of the environment. From the Šiatorská Bukovina, a red trail will take you to the lookout tower after approximately 3 km

If you still have enough power, it is definitely a good idea to combine your visit of outlook with nearby excursions such as Stone Waterfall and Stone Sea or Somoska Castle.
