The town of Hlohovec, as one of the few towns in Slovakia, can boast of an observatory and a planetarium at the same place. For over 50 years, the Hlohovec Observatory has been carrying out edifying, educational, popularizing and scientific activities in the field of astronomy.
For schools and the public, the observatory and planetarium offers several programs, including observations, lectures, seminars, observation presentations, screenings of professional and educational films, and photo galleries from observations. For elementary school students and students, they undertake interest activities within the Astronomical Circle and Young Astronomers Club.
The Observatory has a high-quality observation technique at its disposal. It has the second largest telescope in Slovakia. Observations are made in the observatory not only for the public, but mainly for scientific purposes. Their findings are regularly published in professional journal literature.
The observatory also includes a planetarium. The 56-seat hall houses the Zeiss ZKP-2 planetarium, which allows the artificial sky, the Sun, the Moon, the planets, the stars visible with naked eye, or the Milky Way to be projected in different seasons and latitudes from the North Pole to the South Pole.
Excursions to the observation facility or one of the programs must be agreed in advance.
